HOD: Dr. Niat Nigar
The School of Mathematics started M. Sc. program in 2003, BS in 2008, M. Phil. in 2011 and Ph. D program in 2020. The programs are designed in a way that enables students to think critically about applications of Mathematics in various fields and analyze various types of data and interpret the results effectively. The curricula of this school are based on a solid foundation with balanced coverage of theory and practice and undergo frequent update to keep the content current. The mission is to train students to become Data Scientists and highly professionals who are hardworking, responsible, and good team players, with the skills and capabilities, to contribute to the development of local and regional societies, and to be able to survive in the increasingly competitive global market. At the School of Mathematics, students will not only gain knowledge but more importantly understand the principles and importance of lifelong learning.
Scope of the field (Mathematics)
Mathematics is essential in many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine, finance, and the social sciences. Applied mathematics has led to entirely new mathematical disciplines, such as statistics and game theory. Mathematicians engage in pure mathematics (mathematics for its own sake) without having any application in mind, but practical applications for what began as pure mathematics are often discovered later.
