BS Peace and Conflict Studies

Introduction

This undergraduate program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of Peace and Conflict Studies. It equips students with the analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to navigate the complexities of conflict, terrorism, insurgency and other forms of violence.

Objectives

  • To learn about the causes, dynamics, and consequences of conflicts, including the social, economic, political, and cultural factors involved.
  • To explore strategies and practices for preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts peacefully, with a focus on sustainable peacebuilding efforts.
  • To develop skills in negotiation, mediation, dialogue facilitation, and other conflict resolution techniques to address conflicts constructively.
  • To emphasize the promotion and protection of human rights, social justice, and equality as essential components of sustainable peace.
  • To study the role of international organizations, diplomacy, and cooperation in addressing conflicts and promoting peace globally.
  • To assess conflicts, evaluate peacebuilding interventions, and contribute to academic and policy debates in the field.

Career paths for graduates with a degree in Peace and Conflict Studies include:

Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution: Working with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), international organizations, or government agencies to implement peacebuilding projects, facilitate dialogue, and mediate conflicts.

Humanitarian Aid and Development: Engaging in humanitarian work in conflict-affected areas, providing assistance to displaced populations, and contributing to development projects aimed at addressing root causes of conflict.
