Minhaj University Lahore organized a seminar to celebrate World Ocean Day and mark the 3rd anniversary of the Center of Research and Innovation in Maritime Affairs (CRIMA).

During his speech, Brigadier (Retd) Nadir Mir emphasized the significance of oceans as a divine blessing for humanity. He highlighted that oceans produce 50% of the earth’s oxygen and absorb 30% carbon dioxide, thus crucial in mitigating global warming. He further stressed the strategic and economic importance of oceans, noting that countries increasingly focus on the blue economy over the green economy to strengthen their economic positions. Brigadier (Retd) Nadir Mir congratulated Prof. Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad and the CRIMA team on completing three successful years.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sajid Mahmood Shahzad pointed out that Pakistan is endowed with a vast maritime area rich in valuable minerals, oil, and gas reserves. However, Pakistan has not fully utilized its maritime resources due to governmental neglect and lack of public awareness. He stated that the establishment of CRIMA at Minhaj University Lahore aims to foster research in maritime affairs and raise public awareness about the importance of this sector.
